During the NGV20 Annual Industry Summit, NGVAmerica revealed their significant findings on the relevance of using alt-fuel and the results of a multi-month study of public transportation subsidy programs in the States of Texas and California.
The State of Texas spent $561 million in public resources from 2005-2-19 to boost transition to cleaner vehicle technologies while the State of California spent $816 million during the same period. California regulators spent 46% more public money than Texas, was only able to achieve 35,229 ton NOx reduction which is 43% less than Texas with 61,610 tons of NOx reduction.
According to NVGAmerica President Dan Gage, the community is best served if the state and federal regulators will focus less on encouraging single technology purchases and more on enabling reasonable emissions reduction goals while enabling technology that best caters their needs.
Texas’ clean air achievement was made possible by encouraging alt-fuel vehicle technologies. In addition,
Texas is adapting renewable natural gas (RNG) to its sustainable natural vehicle investments. California on the other hand, is reducing transportation fuel use by investing in Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV).
Gage also added that it is of utmost important to provide the public with affordable, available, and easily scalable clean transportation solutions that address pollution while ensuring that public funding is put to its best use.
